Jaripero

Handlung

//Fokus Mexico// JARIPERO, NX S F D, (MX/US/FR 2026, 70 Min., span./engl. OV + engl. UT)

Von/By: Efraín Mojica, Rebecca Zweig

Musikvideo.

At first glance, it all seems like a another kind of rodeo in the Mexican countryside - a traditional gathering full of cowboys, masculinity, and mezcal. However, beyond the spectacle and celebration surrounding the jaripeo, a quiet and growing space is slowly emerging for diverse queer men who are fighting for diversity and visibility within the scene. The documentary is a gentle portrait of identity, isolation, and various personal dynamics, that through powerful imagery, it chronicles the individual search for a place within a community – in a place that remains conservative and dangerous for a big coming-out. Cowboy fetish meets Italo-disco in this loud, proud, and unapologetically queer music video.
