Arsenal
About this cinema
Founded in 1963 as Freunde der Deutschen Kinemathek, Arsenal opened its first cinema in 1970 in a 1912 building on Welserstraße, moved to the Filmhaus at Potsdamer Platz in 2000, and relocated again in May 2026 to the West Hall of Wedding's former crematorium, now the silent green Kulturquartier, a listed building. The single hall seats 180.
Programming draws on Arsenal's own archive of around 10,000 titles, mixing retrospectives, experimental work and contemporary international cinema, and the cinema has hosted the Berlinale Forum since 1971. Films screen in their original version wherever possible, and a small drinks and snack bar sits just behind the foyer.
