Blauer Stern
About this cinema
Blauer Stern began in 1870 as a dance hall in what was then the village of Niederschönhausen, hosted its first film screenings as part of a variety programme in 1917, and was rebuilt as the Bismarck-Lichtspiele cinema in the 1930s. It reopened under its current name in 1946, closed in 1987 due to disrepair, and returned in December 1996 with a second hall added during that renovation.
A 2020 renovation reworked the foyer and aisles while keeping the building's history visible, and both halls, seating 203 and 90, run fully digital projection with Dolby 3D. The programme leans toward arthouse titles and a strong children's-film selection, and there's a café on site for before or after a screening.
