Capitol Dahlem
About this cinema
Capitol Dahlem occupies a villa built in the late 1920s that was requisitioned in 1942 for a private screening room, then denazified and opened to the public as a cinema in 1946. It runs under Yorck Kinogruppe management, has one screening hall, and returned as a Berlinale festival venue in 2010. The auditorium now runs 4K laser projection.
The villa setting gives Capitol Dahlem a salon-like atmosphere unusual for a Berlin cinema, with ivy on the walls and a glass of Sekt served in the front garden before films. Its international arthouse programme sits within Dahlem's museum and university quarter, near the Freie Universität.
