The Titania-Palast opened on 26 January 1928 as a luxury cinema in Steglitz, a New Objectivity building with a 30-metre light tower. After the war it was a concert hall, the Free University held its founding ceremony there in 1948, and the first Berlinale opened here in 1951. Films returned in 1995, in seven new halls.
Little of the old interior survived the conversion, but the façade and the name did, and the building is a listed monument. The cinema entrance is on Gutsmuthsstraße, opposite the Forum Steglitz. Since 2022 the Berlinale has come back for occasional screenings, including its closing event that year.
