Eva-Lichtspiele
About this cinema
The Eva-Lichtspiele opened in 1913 as the Roland-Lichtspiele and are among the oldest cinemas in Berlin. The present name dates from a 1921 rebuild. A 1957 renovation gave the house its neon lettering and the golden cloud curtain in front of the screen, both still there; the single hall now seats 250.
The programme mixes first-run films and later releases, with plenty for children. The house is best known for Der alte deutsche Film, a decades-old series of German films from the 1920s to the 1940s, shown with coffee, cake and a historical introduction. The Volkspark Wilmersdorf is around the corner.
