IL Kino Berlin
About this cinema
IL Kino opened on 1 November 2014 in a disused Neukölln bakery, the first new independent cinema to open in Berlin in more than 20 years. The idea began in 2012, when the empty bakery hosted a Euro Championship public viewing with beer benches and a projection on the back wall; the old baking room became the 52-seat hall.
You watch international arthouse premieres and repertory titles here, almost always subtitled rather than dubbed. The former shop counter is now a bar strung with Polish film posters, serving Italian wine, coffee, and food before and after screenings — as much a neighbourhood living room as a cinema.
