Kino im Kulturhaus Spandau Berlin

Mauerstraße 6, 13597 Berlin

About this cinema

The building at Mauerstraße 6 began in 1930 as a Bewag electrical substation and became a cultural centre in 1986. A cinema opened there in 1988 as "Programmkino Topas," then changed names — Filmriss, then Alpha — before closing in 2000 and reopening under the Yorck cinema group in 2003. Independent since 2005.

Since 2005 it has run independently, screening up to fifteen European arthouse and independent films a week — mostly German-dubbed, documentaries often shown in the original with subtitles — on its single 81-seat screen. Skip the popcorn: the house tradition is a pretzel and a glass of red wine. An open-air programme runs each summer.
