Kino Intimes Berlin
About this cinema
Intimes began as a small corner cinema on Boxhagener Straße, originally seating around 150 — sources differ on the exact opening year, in the early 1900s. Nationalised in 1960 under VEB Berliner Filmtheater, it later became Friedrichshain's main neighbourhood cinema. It closed in 2019 and reopened on 1 July 2021 with two halls.
The two halls keep their 1970s wood panelling and tiled stove, and a Kneipe pours the house's own craft beer after the film. Expect international arthouse titles, often in original language with subtitles. Outside, the wall on Niederbarnimstraße doubles as one of Berlin's most repainted street-art spots.
