About this cinema

Opened in 1907 in a 1905-built corner house at Kottbusser Damm 22, this is the oldest continuously running cinema in Germany. Its two original halls met at a 45-degree angle, linked by a semi-transparent screen so the rear hall saw the film mirror-reversed, corrected by a mirror. Renamed repeatedly, it took the name Moviemento in 1984.

Rebuilt into a three-screen house (seating 62, 67 and 103) and renovated again in 2007, it shows films in OV, OmU and OmeU without German dubbing, with a bar at the back and a café lounge up front. It has hosted the Pornfilmfestival Berlin since 2009 and runs as a members' cooperative rooted in Kreuzberg's independent scene.
