Neues Off

Hermannstr. 20, 12049 Berlin

About this cinema

The building held a theatre and variety stage before becoming a cinema in 1926 as the Rixdorfer Lichtspiele, then ran as an adult cinema from 1955 to 1979. Yorck Kinogruppe took it over in 1979, and a full restoration saw it reopen as Neues Off in 1998. It has one hall, seating 187, with 4K laser projection installed in 2022.

Programming runs almost entirely original-language with subtitles, anchored by the twice-weekly "in the mood" strand devoted to East Asian cinema. The hall's 1950s-style interior has been featured on "Accidentally Wes Anderson," and Yorck itself calls it one of the city's most beautiful cinemas. Step-free access stops at the foyer; the auditorium is reached via the courtyard.
