Rollberg

About this cinema

The site held two large cinemas before this one — the 2,500-seat Mercedes-Palast from 1927 and its postwar successor — before decades of nonuse; the Rollberg opened in 1996 inside the newly built Kindl Boulevard shopping centre with five screens, 463 seats in total. Since 2010 every film has shown in its original version with subtitles.

It's tucked inside a shopping arcade and, in the evenings, often reached only through the courtyard entrance on the small Rollbergstraße itself. The venue is known for its weekly "Creepy Crypt" horror night, which has built a following well beyond Berlin, alongside its wide selection of English-subtitled original-version titles. Neukölln's cinephile, multicultural crowd is its regular audience.
