Yorck
About this cinema
The Yorck opened in 1953 inside Riehmers Hofgarten, a Gründerzeit ensemble under monument protection since the same year. Near-closure in 1978 led to a relaunch that gave the wider Yorck Kinogruppe its name. The single hall became two screens in 1980, went digital in 2012, and the foyer was renovated in 2021.
Go for the two-screen programme mixing arthouse titles with independent US films, and for what locals call Berlin's biggest morning slate of youth screenings. Expect German-subtitled and dubbed showings alongside original versions. The cinema's deep, cushioned seats are locally legendary — and its long-running crowds are credited with filling Yorckstraße's surrounding pubs.
